In March, 2018, Ken Waters delivered the keynote address at the Final Conference of the ERC Project: A Process Ontology for Contemporary Biology. His talk was titled, "Ask Not 'What is an Individual?'" Participants learned what question they ought to ask instead.
Alan Love and Bill Wimsatt participate in the 36th Altenberg Workshop in Theoretical Biology in Vienna
In March, 2018, core-team members Alan Love and Bill Wimsatt traveled to Vienna for the 36th Altenberg Workshop in Theoretical Biology (hosted by the Konrad Lorenz Institute). The theme of the workshop was "Hierarchy and Levels of Organization in the Biological Sciences." Love's talk was titled "Manipulating levels of organization: Hierarchy and Levels of Organization in the Biological Sciences." Not to be outdone, Wimsatt entitled his talk "Heuristics, and Robustness in Cultural Evolution: Finding Partial Organization in Causal Thickets."

Alan Love was an invited symposium participant ("Pluralism in Logic, Science and Metaphysics") at the annual meeting of the American Philosophical Association, Central Division in Chicago, IL (Februrary, 2018). He delivered a paper entitled "Scientific Metaphysics, Fundamentality, and Varieties of Pluralism." An earlier version of this paper was given at Indiana University, as part of their HPS/Philosophy Colloquium Series in January, 2018.
